Popham Hall West Bagborough
POPHAM HALL
The Hall was gifted to the people of the parish of west Bagborough by Air Vice Marshall Sir Robert Brooke Popham.

It was opened on August 31st. 1922 by Sir Robert, with the Rector, the Rev. J. F. Briscoe, Church Wardens and parishioners present.

Popham Hall
Original ownership of the hall lay with the Rector and the Church Wardens.

Following the second world war an act of parliament reverted such properties to the legal ownership of the Diocese.

During the late 1970's the Popham Hall Management Committee attempted to buy back the hall, but were unable to do so due to its market value. The Committee could, however, rent the hall from the Diocese if they converted to holding charity status. With this aim the Committee became a registered charity in 1980.

The Diocesan Board of Finance at Wells agreed to lease the deeds to Popham Hall to the Committee for a 'peppercorn rent' payable on the 25th. July annually from 1979 for a period of 56 years.

The Hall acts as a venue for a variety of activities including;

The Youth Group.
The Toddler Group.
The Garden Club.
Line dancing.

The Hall also acts a venue for a variety of activities such as the Harvest Supper, the Childrens Christmas Party and numerous other events throughout the year (see below for pictures of one such event)

The Hall is available for use by individuals and groups at a very reasonable rate!
